Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge Kicks off at Dallas College with The Texas Ticker

Dallas College's Bloomberg Finance and Investment Lab at Richland Campus

More than 250 Dallas College and dual credit students from our partner high schools are competing in the Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge, gaining hands-on experience with the same technology used by financial institutions and investment professionals around the world.

Using Bloomberg Terminals located across Dallas College campuses, 64 Dallas College student teams are managing $1 million virtual portfolios, analyzing real-time market conditions and making investment decisions in a competition that mirrors the pace, complexity and decision-making environment of today's financial markets. Our students are standing out in a global competition involving nearly 3,000 teams from 457 institutions across 50 countries and territories:

  • Dallas College is the only institution with two teams ranked among the Top 10 in the United States, with both teams outperforming every university team in Texas.

  • Three Dallas College teams rank among the Top 100 worldwide: The Wolves of Bloomberg, No. 38; The Avengers, No. 45; MVK, No. 76.

  • Eleven Dallas College teams rank in the top 10% globally, more than any other participating institution.

  • Y'all Street Natives recorded one of the competition's most notable gains, climbing 1,074 places in a single week.

“Our students are competing among the best university teams in the world,” said Chancellor Dr. Justin H. Lonon. “Through the Texas Ticker and Bloomberg Finance and Investment Lab, they are using the same market tools as financial professionals and putting their knowledge to work. That hands-on experience builds skills and confidence they can carry into careers in finance and business.”

The Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge places students in a live-market simulation, requiring them to respond to changing market conditions, monitor portfolio performance, and make real-time investment decisions. As one of the world's largest student investment competitions, it provides an extraordinary opportunity to apply classroom learning in an environment that closely reflects the realities of global financial markets.

This experience is part of the Texas Ticker, Dallas College's Bloomberg-powered trading and market analytics initiative, launched in February as the cornerstone of the Y'all Street Market Experience. Created to prepare talent for North Texas' emergence as a leading financial hub, The Texas Ticker combines the Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge, Dallas College's Bloomberg Finance and Investment Labs, and industry-connected learning experiences that immerse students in real-world market activity. Through access to professional-grade technology, live market data, and applied learning opportunities, students gain the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to succeed in the evolving financial services sector.

The timing could not be more significant

As the Texas Stock Exchange takes shape and the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq deepen their investment in the region, North Texas is rapidly emerging as one of the nation's premier financial centers. Dallas College is helping ensure the talent pipeline keeps pace by providing students access to the tools, experiences and industry exposure that define today's financial marketplace.

What makes this effort especially meaningful is that it extends beyond our college classrooms. Students from Dallas ISD and Garland ISD are competing alongside Dallas College students, creating early exposure to financial literacy, investing and career pathways while building a seamless path from high school to college and into the workforce.

Congratulations to the students, faculty advisors and teams supporting this effort. We are proud to partner with Bloomberg to provide world-class learning experiences that connect education directly to the opportunities shaping the future of North Texas' growing financial ecosystem.
